In biomass and wood gasification plants, the efficient use of energy plays a crucial role. At the same time, the process often produces residues in the form of residual charcoal, which, without specific post-treatment, can create additional work and affect the plant’s overall performance. Spanner Re²’s HeatBoost technology addresses precisely this issue, combining energy efficiency with clean, controlled utilisation of residual materials.

What does our HeatBoost do?

The HeatBoost is a thermal system for the further utilisation of existing process energy. Heat recovery increases the plant’s efficiency and stabilises operations. At the same time, the technology ensures that residual materials are actively integrated into the process and thermally treated.

Fully utilising residual charcoal – right down to the ash

A key advantage lies in the complete utilisation of residual charcoal:
The remaining carbon content is post-combusted and converted into fine mineral ash. This generates additional usable heat and significantly simplifies the handling of residual materials.

In this way, residual charcoal is not treated as waste, but utilised as an energy source.

The combination of heat recovery and post-combustion ensures more stable and efficient operation. At the same time, HeatBoost allows for more flexible use of different fuels and improves the plant’s overall performance.

The technology is suitable for wood gasification, CHP and other biomass plants and can also be retrofitted into existing systems.

Practical use of residual materials

In practice, it is evident that the handling of residual charcoal requires a targeted and reliable solution. Direct utilisation is often only possible to a limited extent, as the requirements regarding quality, composition and documentation are very high depending on the application. Additionally, regulatory and economic hurdles arise, which often make use in smaller plants difficult.

The HeatBoost therefore follows a clear approach:
Residual charcoal is not treated as a separate material stream, but is utilised directly in the process for energy and completely converted into ash.

This results in simple, stable and traceable plant operation - without additional complexity or dependence on external recycling channels.
