Advancing Biomass Gasification for High-Temperature Industry
Spanner Re² has received an important order from Charwood Energy Group for a technically demanding industrial project. The project is based on approximately 3,5 MW of gas generation capacity using co-developped solution based on Spanner Re² biomass gasification technology.
For Spanner Re², this project represents an important milestone. Together with Charwood Energy Group, the existing technology will be further developed to produce a higher-quality syngas, suitable for industrial high-temperature applications.
The technical approach goes beyond conventional air gasification: we partially replace air in the gasification process with steam and oxygen. This allows the production of a more energy-rich syngas that can be used in applications with very high temperature requirements.
Enabling Decarbonisation of High-Temperature Processes
This high-temperature range is particularly relevant for the decarbonisation of industrial processes. Many industrial applications require continuous process temperatures in the range of approximately 1,500 to 1,600 °C and are today still largely supplied by fossil natural gas.
With this project, Spanner Re² and Charwood Enerrgy Group aims to demonstrate that syngas from biomass can offer a real perspective for replacing natural gas in demanding industrial high-temperature processes.
The technical implementation and production are scheduled to take place during the course of this year. Commissioning of the project is planned for the beginning of next year.

With approximately 3,5 MW of gas generation capacity, the project is not only technologically challenging, but also industrially relevant. It shows that decentralised biomass gasification can be scaled and applied in sectors where renewable energy must be available reliably, continuously and at high process temperatures.
