Self-sufficient energy supply with wood: Large metalworking company Eirenschmalz relies on wood gasifier technology
The operation requires large amounts of electrical energy and process heat all year round – among other things for machinery, cooling processes, hall heating, and hot water. Dependence on external energy suppliers has in the past led to:
- highly fluctuating energy costs
- limited planning security
- growing CO2 footprint
The goal was therefore to establish an economically stable, sustainable, and long-term available source of energy.
The solution: Spanner Re² wood gasification systems with combined heat and power – they generate electricity and heat on-site and reduce operating costs
In 2022, five wood gasifier systems of the type HKA 70 from Spanner Re² were installed, which are operated with wood chips from regional forestry. Since then, the plant has been using the principle of combined heat and power (CHP) and today covers a large part of its energy needs in operation itself.

Sustainability as Part of Corporate Strategy - CO2-neutral with wood gasification technology
With the wood gasification combined heat and power plant, the company is sending a clear signal: sustainability and industrial performance are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary – the investment pays off both ecologically and economically and actively supports the long-term competitiveness of the location.
Self-sufficient energy supply with a wood gasification combined heat and power plant is a future-proof solution for Eirenschmalz's operations. The energy-intensive metal-processing company demonstrates how security of supply, economic efficiency, and climate protection can be successfully combined.
